As promised previously, we will be keeping you up to date with developments in the General Assembly. On Wednesday, February 25, 2015, the General Assembly’s Education Committee will conduct a public hearing on the following proposed bills:
- S.B. No. 942 AN ACT IMPLEMENTING THE BUDGET RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE GOVERNOR CONCERNING EDUCATION.
- S.B. No. 943 AN ACT CONCERNING CHARTER SCHOOL MODERNIZATION AND REFORM.
- S.B. No. 944 AN ACT ESTABLISHING A FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN REQUIREMENT.
- H.B. No. 6837 AN ACT ENCOURAGING A GRADUATED RESPONSE MODEL FOR STUDENT DISCIPLINE.
- S.B. No. 963 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING A LABOR AND FREE MARKET CAPITALISM CURRICULUM.
- H.B. No. 6835 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS.
- S.B. No. 962 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM.
- H.B. No. 6834 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING COLLABORATION BETWEEN BOARDS OF EDUCATION AND SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS.
- H.B. No. 6836 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING THE TIMING OF CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORDS CHECKS FOR SCHOOL EMPLOYEES.
- S.B. No. 964 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING THE LEGISLATIVE COMMISSIONERS' RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TECHNICAL REVISIONS TO THE EDUCATION AND EARLY CHILDHOOD STATUTES.
- S.B. No. 965 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING EDUCATION ISSUES.
The hearing will take place at 12:00 P.M. in Room 2E of the Legislative Office Building.
The fact that a public hearing has been scheduled on these bills is not necessarily an indication that the Committee will pass these bills, but it is at least an indication that such bills are under serious consideration. Should these bills advance toward a vote by the Committee, we will provide more detail as to their contents.
As we indicated previously, the 2015 session of the Connecticut General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn on June 3, 2015. The deadline for the Education Committee to approve and “forward” bills out of Committee is March 30, 2015. Bills affecting education issues may also emerge from other committees, and bills effecting labor and employment issues that may emerge from the Labor and Public Employees Committee are being tracked on our sister blog, “Working Together.” Stay tuned.
