CONFERENCE: Pullman & Comley School Law Attorneys to Speak at 2016 CABE/CAPSS Convention

Two members of Pullman & Comley's School Law Practice were workshop presenters at the 2016 CABE/CAPSS Convention, "Children First: Opening Opportunities for All!," on November 18 and 19 at the Mystic Marriott in Groton, CT.

On November 18th attorney Michael P. McKeon delivered, "Speak no Evil: The Legal Contours of Board Member Speech," designed to help school board members avoid inadvertently crossing the line of appropriate speech, and thereby exposing themselves and their district to potential liability.  It also helped to assist school boards in walking the fine line between a reasonable response and actionable overreaching, and avoiding escalating fractious coexistence into a civil rights disaster.  

On November 19th attorney Mark J. Sommaruga, chairman of the firm's School Law Practice, presented (along with Thomas Hennick from the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission), "Understanding the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act and Access to Public Meeting and Records," a workshop designed to provide further guidance to board members and school administrators seeking to navigate the maze of edicts and exceptions associated with the FOIA, along with updates on the FOIA from interesting cases.
