IN THE NEWS: Pullman & Comley Attorney Comments on Alleged Child Labor Violations at Family Pizzeria
Pullman & Comley Labor & Employment attorney Daniel A. Schwartz commented on a case in which the owners of a Connecticut family pizzeria filed a complaint after the state Department of Labor began investigating them for allegedly violating child labor laws. The family's children help out in the restaurant on weekends.
The parents say that they are trying to teach the children the family business.
"The law is pretty clear that children, particularly under the age of 14, aren't allowed to work," said Schwartz.
"There isn't a family business loophole, which I think is certainly something that responsible parents could make a good argument for," he said. "But the way the law is set up is to prevent the unscrupulous parents from taking advantage of their kids."
