Pullman & Comley Attorney Comments on Furloughs

Pullman & Comley attorney Dan Schwartz commented on the use of furloughs, or unpaid days off, as a means of cutting employee costs without layoffs, in "Furloughs Often the Best of Bad Choices," in The Day, June 8, 2009.

"They're a good alternative to layoffs, but they're not for everyone," said Dan. Employers can run the risk of exposure to wage-and-hour complaints. "Years ago, if you sent employees home, they couldn't do any work," Schwartz said. "But in this era of interconnectivity, they can. And it tends to be the good employees who have the toughest time putting away their BlackBerrys."
