IN THE NEWS: Pullman & Comley Attorney Interviewed on Cuts to Connecticut's Legal Aid Agencies

Diane W. Whitney, chair of Pullman & Comley's Environmental Law Section and Greater Hartford Legal Aid board member, was quoted extensively in "Big Pay Cuts for Legal Aid Attorneys," an article by Christian Nolan and Douglas S. Malan which appeared in the December 8, 2008 issue of the Connecticut Law Tribune. The article discusses ways in which the financial crisis is affecting services at Connecticut's legal aid agencies.

In the article, Whitney said that making associates from private firms available to legal aid agencies might also be one way to avoid layoffs in Connecticut firms and local offices of national firms.

“There are certainly plenty of firms, especially with real estate practices, that are slow,” she said. “If we can weather this storm, help attorneys and provide a needed service, then that would be great. I don’t think anyone wants to lay off attorneys.”
