James Shearin Featured in an Article by ALM on Becoming CBA President
James T. Shearin (Tim), chair of Pullman and Comley’s Litigation practice has been featured in an article by the American Lawyer Media (ALM) that details his inauguration as the 101st president of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) for the 2024-25 bar year. The article highlights Tim's many career achievements, his dedication to the legal community, and his vision for the future of the CBA.
Tim's long-standing commitment to the CBA dates back to 1986 when he first joined the association fresh out of law school. Over the years, he has recognized the CBA as a crucial source of education and a valuable platform for building professional relationships.
The article also describes Tim's dedication to supporting solo and small firm attorneys, who constitute the largest block of CBA members. He recognizes the unique challenges faced by these practitioners and aims to provide them with more support during his tenure, noting, “The bar association can help those smaller and solo firms deal better with the operational and administrative challenges that they face.”
Tim emphasizes the importance of networking and continuous support among colleagues, especially for new attorneys. He advises, “In order to be successful at [this profession], you need to work hard and be available to your clients at all times, for all reasons.”
Tim wants the bar association to be “a stronger voice for the rule of law.”
“Sometimes it’s just being a mouthpiece for when we see the rule of law being distorted or manipulated by others, and it also manifests in making sure that the third branch of government isn’t marginalized,” Tim noted.
