John F. Stafstrom Named as One of "Dozen Who Made A Difference" In 2012
HARTFORD,: John F. Stafstrom Jr., Chair of the Public Finance Department with Pullman & Comley, LLC, was named by the Connecticut Law Tribune as one of the “Dozen Who Made a Difference” in the Connecticut legal community in 2012.
The publication pointed to John’s work in completing contract negotiations with large public-private partnerships, including the $291 million financing plan to bring Jackson Laboratory’s genome facility to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine; the Steel Point project along the Bridgeport Harbor – a mixed use commercial development; the newly established Connecticut Airport Authority, which will manage all of Connecticut airports; and the $145 million commercial development in Stamford that is part of the Harbor Point Infrastructure Improvement District.
John advises clients in negotiating contracts between private developers, contract operators and government entities. He also counsels financial institutions and government entities in transactions involving the making of loans and the modification, settlement and restructuring of loan obligations. John has also served as bond counsel, letter-of-credit counsel and underwriters’ counsel in large government bond transactions and has represented borrowers in significant government finance transactions, in addition to drafting significant legislation in the public finance area.
John is vice chairman and a member of the board of directors of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, a member of the Government Relations Committee and founder of Career Resources, Inc. He was also named as the 2013 Ringmaster for the Bridgeport Barnum Festival. John is the former chair of the Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee and a former member of the Bridgeport City Council. John also serves on the National Leadership Council of Lambda Legal.
John earned his B.A. in economics and accounting from College of Holy Cross in 1978 and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1981, where he was an editor of the Law Review.
