D. Robert Morris, who leads Pullman & Comley's Tax Section of the firm's Business Organizations and Finance practice and Jonathan Orleans, chair of the Labor and Employment Law practice, describe what employers and employees can expect when thinking about coronavirus-related expenses.
As the number of people telecommuting have drastically increased, many are wondering if the company will reimburse employee expenses related to working remotely. Jon says that's not technically not required — “though the best practice is certainly to do so in the current situation, where the employer is specifically asking the employee to work from home.”
As for these costs impacting tax deductions, Rob explains “If you are the employee of a company, as opposed to being self-employed, there is no deduction for any expenses.”
