Pullman & Comley Expands with the Addition of the Jeffers Cowherd Team
BRIDGEPORT, Conn., October 4, 2016: Pullman & Comley, LLC is pleased to announce the addition of six attorneys to the firm. They include two partners, Karen Jeffers and Stephen Cowherd; counsel Margaret A. Bartiromo and Karen P. Wackerman; and associates Russell F. Anderson and Amy E. Murray.
All six join the firm from the former Jeffers Cowherd PC, a Fairfield, Connecticut-based law firm serving clients from large, multinational companies to entrepreneurial start-ups and nonprofit organizations in practice areas including healthcare; advertising, marketing, and market research; employment; commercial real estate, education, litigation, intellectual property and investment management.

In addition to complementary practice strengths in corporate, health care and labor and employment, the new attorneys bring to Pullman an established marketing, advertising and entertainment law practice, as well as additional capabilities in cybersecurity and data privacy.

The attorneys joining the firm include:
Karen A. Jeffers, who has more than 30 years of experience working with clients in the health care and marketing and advertising industries, among others. Her general corporate and business law practice collectively spans from mergers and acquisitions to corporate governance and employment law, while her health care experience includes transactions, hospital operations, health insurance exchanges and drafting health care legislation. Karen holds a J.D. from Columbia University and a B.A. from Trinity College.
Stephen M. Cowherd focuses his practice in the areas of health care and administrative law and for more than 20 years has represented clients before regulatory agencies and advised health care providers on issues including compliance with fraud and abuse laws, Medicare and Medicaid enrollment and reimbursement and patient rights. His broad experience also includes hospital and medical practice mergers and acquisitions, hospital-physician joint ventures and health system reorganizations. Stephen received his J.D. from St. John’s University and his B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Margaret A. Bartiromo is a business and finance attorney and possesses broad experience in the areas of labor and employment law and health care law. In labor and employment matters she counsels clients of all sizes on issues such as wage and hour concerns, employment policies and manuals, discrimination issues and separation agreements. Her experience in health care focuses on the representation of physician groups, hospitals and other providers regarding a range of business, governance and regulatory matters. Margaret received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, her M.A. from Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and her B.A. from Hunter College of the City University of New York.
Karen P. Wackerman is a business and finance attorney who focuses her practice on corporate law, investment management regulation and health care law. She assists her clients with an array of legal services, ranging from general outside counsel, employment relations law, forming investment funds and creating effective compliance programs. Karen also advises physicians and physician groups, hospitals and other health care entities in administrative law. Karen holds a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and a B.A. from Smith College.
Russell F. Anderson is a business and finance attorney who serves clients in the market research, marketing, technology, pharmaceutical and health care industries. Russ, who has significant experience in many areas of the marketing/advertising industry, and in the technology field, represents clients regarding security breaches, regulatory inquiries, and email and telemarketing regulation. He also represents health care providers, pharmaceutical and medical device entities. Russ received his J.D. from the College of William & Mary, Marshall Wythe School of Law and his B.A. from Wesleyan University.
Amy Murray is a health care attorney and advises clients on issues relating to compliance with HIPAA, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid, and other health care laws and regulations. Amy is also knowledgeable in general corporate and business law and education law and has advised educational institutions on a broad range of issues. Amy received her J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and her B.S. from the University of Illinois, where she also served for three years in the Office of University Counsel.
The six new attorneys will be based in Pullman & Comley’s Bridgeport office and will team with attorneys throughout the firm.
