Overview
Pullman & Comley’s Alternative Energy practice focuses on large-scale renewable energy projects, energy storage systems, and distributed generation installations. The practice brings together attorneys across various disciplines to serve clients in the growing and evolving areas of climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, distributed generation, renewable energy credits and trading, carbon trading, energy storage, greenhouse gas initiatives and project finance. Our clients include energy developers, property managers, real estate developers, landlords, tenants, retailers, manufacturers, governmental agencies, investors, venture capitalists and lenders. We have experience in most alternative energy technologies including wind, solar, photovoltaics (PV), biomass, battery energy storage systems, hydroelectric, biofuel, fuel cells and combined heat and power (CHP) systems.
Our group consists of attorneys with transactional and regulatory experience in the electricity and natural gas markets; the real estate industry, including commercial, industrial and retail properties; the alternative energy industry, representing developers, host sites, and manufacturers; and climate change, representing energy project developers, governmental agencies and lenders. Our attorneys deal with regulatory proceedings, project development, permitting, obtaining financial incentives, power purchase agreements, emission trading, siting and land use, environmental law, real estate, taxation, business and litigation.
We also serve on a number of working groups and committees that are developing the future paradigms of this industry. These include the International Council of Shopping Centers’ Sustainable Energy and Environmental Design (SEED) initiative, the Energy Bar Association, the Northeast Energy and Commerce Association, the Connecticut Power and Energy Society, the Air and Waste Management Association, the Responsible Property Investing Coalition, and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association’s Energy and Environment Council.
Attorneys in this practice have extensive experience before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Connecticut Siting Council, the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, as well as similar agencies throughout the East Coast. Our attorneys also regularly practice before local zoning, wetlands and land use agencies with respect to the siting of facilities.

- 2022
Our Real Estate attorneys represented the landlord in connection with the preparation and negotiation of a ground lease with Vineyard Wind LLC to allow it to develop its hub to support the construction of its Park City Wind farm. This project will develop up to 1,200 MW of offshore wind energy and crate as many as 12,000 direct, indirect, and induced full-time equivalent (FTE) job years across Connecticut.

Our environmental lawyers have represented an energy project developer that had its project rejected due to stormwater permitting concerns. Pullman’s environmental team worked with the developer and Connecticut’s environmental regulators to renew that permit application and bring the project into development. Since beginning construction, the project has received favorable comments from Connecticut’s regulators.

Revolution Wind, a next generation 200-megawatt offshore wind farm that will be located in federal waters 50 miles from New London, Connecticut will help Connecticut meet its renewable energy goals affordably, and will deliver clean energy to Connecticut utilities during peak hours of demand. Pullman attorneys will be there to assist in moving forward the permitting and policy phases of this innovative offshore wind solution.
Clean Feet Investors is a Connecticut- based investment fund dedicated to investing in green energy projects. Our attorneys were retained by Clean Feet to assist in its investment activity.
Our attorneys were involved with two key projects that are part of “BGreen 2020,” a plan to improve the environmental quality and livability of Bridgeport’s parks, waterways and streets and to promote Bridgeport as a location for the development of green industries and green employment.
